Annual Standard International Trade Classification (SITC)

The SITC, or Standard International Trade Classification, is a classification system developed by the United Nations (UN) for external trade statistics. It facilitates international comparisons of commodities and manufactured goods. Like the Harmonized System (HS), the SITC employs a standardized coding system to categorize traded merchandise. However, unlike the HS, the SITC focuses on the function and economic uses of the product rather than its material composition. The United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) oversees revisions to this classification. The SITC is organized into Sections, which are further subdivided into Divisions and then into Groups.
